IndustryFundy Gypsum CompanyA large part of Hantsport's waterfront, near the government wharf, is occupied by a huge storage shed from which the gypsum fleet is loaded with up to 40,000 tons of gypsum per boat. The gypsum is mined at Wentworth, near Windsor, and is shipped by rail to Hantsport for export to all parts of the world. CKF Inc.This company was founded in 1933 by the late Roy A. Jodrey and is the largest Canadian manufacturer of molded fibre products. Licensed by the Chinet Company in Waterville, Maine, it produces over two hundred shapes, sizes and colors of products and markets them all across Canada. The chief product lines are: egg cartons, egg trays, pre-packaging containers for produce, berry boxes, picnic plates and a complete range of disposable tableware. Some of these products are produced from hardwood pulp, and others from recycled fibres. The plant covers over three acres of land and has approximately five and one-half acres of floor area. Minas Basin Pulp and Power Company LimitedMinas Basin and Power Company Limited was founded in 1927 in Hantsport by the late Roy A. Jodrey. Today, using the latest in computer technology, Minas Basin produces 100% recycled paperboard products such as linerboard and coreboard,and has a production capacity of 100,000 metric tonnes per year. Having used recycled fibre in one form or another since the 1950's, Minas Basin uses only 100% recycled fibre and has the capacity to process 90,000 tons of old corrugated cartons per year. Minas Basin's recycling represents a reduction of approximately 10.8 million cubic feet of landfill each year. Minas Basin was the first mill in Nova Scotia and one of the first in Canada to be in total compliance with all Federal Pulp and Paper Effluent Regulations.
