Geocaching In Hantsport

Hantsport is a part of the Geocaching network!!! alt

Geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure. A geocacher can place a geocache in the world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology and then share the geocache's existence and location online. Anyone with a GPS device can then try to locate the geocache.

Wireless Internet

HANTSPORT-MESH was designed with the idea of benefiting not only the business community in Hantsport but also families and members of the community for whom internet access may be either new or difficult to acquire.

The HANTSPORT-MESH service is not designed to completely replace home Internet services. HANTSPORT-MESH is limited to a set of specific internet capabilities, and does not allow anything beyond these offered services: web browsing, secure (SSL) web browsing for online commerce or banking, VPN (virtual private networking for secure business links, for work from home applications) and email. Due to limited resources, the Town cannot provide technical support for the users of the network. We will provide support for the network equipment itself, and we aim to provide 99.9% availability in terms of network operations. If you are having difficulty accessing the network, it may be helpful to contact your regular technical support person for help. Residents should be able to access the network all along Main Street, on parts of Prince and William streets, in the Community Center building, by the pool and in the park, and in the areas around the park, and in parts of School Street and Chittick Avenue. When the fourth mesh radio is deployed, parts of Avon Street, Davison Street, Foundry Road, Cottage Street, Oak Street and Porter's Avenue will be covered, including part of the industrial areas on the waterfront.

Because the Mesh technology we have used is scalable and easy to expand, in future years likely more radios will be deployed to increase coverage in terms of area and quality of connection. Because of the multitude of factors that can affect wireless network coverage, we can only speak in general terms with regard to actual network coverage. Network coverage may vary according to atmospheric conditions, weather, and season.

Hantsport in Brief...

Population: In 2006, the population of the Town of Hantsport was 1191 persons.

Recreation facilities: The Hantsport Memorial Community Centre provides a centrally located focal point for sports and entertainment within the Town. During the summer months baseball, soccer, tennis, swimming and a playground are available on the grounds. In addition, the centre functions as the main stage for the Town's annual July 1st celebrations.

Transportation: The Town of Hantsport is very well served with a transportation system. The road network provides easy access to other points in the province. The main arterial roads are Route #1 (old Halifax Highway) and Highway #101. These highways provide quick and easy access to the Halifax-Dartmouth metropolitan area as well as points further west in the Valley. A terminal bus service is located in Falmouth.

Effective September 4, 2007 a public transit bus service is available from Hantsport to Windsor and west from Hantsport to Digby. The Halifax International Airport provides freight service to locations within the Town and is located 1 hour from Hantsport. The Windsor and Hantsport Railway Company is one of two private companies in Nova Scotia.
