Town Hall Minutes - January 2nd, 2007

The regular meeting of Town Council for the Town of Hantsport was called to order at 6:00 p.m. with Mayor H. Wayne Folker presiding.

Approval of Minutes:
On motion of F. Hill and P. Murray it was
Resolved to accept the minutes of the December 5th regular meeting of Town Council.
Presentation Hantsport School:
Sean Bennett, Principal of Hantsport School, introduced himself to Council. Mr. Bennett talked about the positive changes that have occurred with the school, as well.
Presentation CBDC:
Ken Critchton, Canadian Business Development Centre gave the 2006 overview to Council regarding the growth of CBDC loans and their assistance to businesses.
General Correspondence:
A letter was received from David Pollard indicating that he has been appointed chair of the Board of Directors for the Annapolis Valley Housing Authority. The CAO was directed to write a letter to congratulate him.
A letter was received from Grant Brennan with Canada/Nova Scotia Infrastructure regarding the 2006-2007 Gas tax allocation.
It was agreed that Deputy Mayor Peter Murray and Councillor Don Rockwell would attend the FCM Conference.
A letter was received from MLA Chuck Porter indicating that Fundy Gypsum had turned down the request of HRDA to act as a mediator.
The Canadian Federation of Students Nova Scotia asked Councils support in helping keep tuition fees down. The CAO was directed to write a letter of support.
A response to has been sent to the NSURB indicating that the Town of Hantsport will continue to maintain 6 members of Council plus a Mayor.
A letter was received from Department of Transportation indicating that there are no plans to replace the bridge on Tannery Road at this time. The CAO was directed to draft a letter indicating that a sidewalk construction would be in the Spring, and that should a decision be made to replace the bridge, it would be better for the Town if it could be reached sooner than later.
A letter of resignation was received from Dawn MacNeill.
Adam Rostis Federal – Provincial Liaison Officer of EMO indicated through correspondence that the Town of Hantsport has been approved a JEPP Grant in the amount of $25,147 for the EMO Centre that will be constructed downstairs in the Town Office.
Council Members Oaths
Councillor Martin Gillis and Councillor Margot Bureau have read and signed the attached Oath of Allegiance.
Councillor Gillis will assume the following CommitteeÙs Valley Waste Authority, REMO, Police Service Advisory & Policy & Procedures.
Councillor Bureaux will assume the following Committees Cemetery, HMCC, HRDA, Tourism and Community Fibre Network (Councillor Johnston will be the alternate for the Fibre Network).
Bills Payable
On motion of D. Rockwell and F. Hill
It was RESOLVED to accept the bills payable for the month of December in the amount of $60,675.76.

Water Reports: The water reports for the month of December were absent for fecal Coliforms and for total coliforms.
Committees of Council
Police: No report at this Time.
HRDA: No report at this time.
Community Fibre Network: No Report.
Recreation: The CAO has submitted the Recreation Report prepared by Recreation Director Sandra Fraser. On motion of P.Murray and F. Hill the recreation report was accepted.
Cemetery: Meeting Scheduled for January 11th 3:30pm.
Fire: No report at this time.
Tourism: No report at this time.
Public Works: No report at this Time.
